WWE NXT House Shows in Florida have been a staple for the brand for years, but it looks as though they may be scaling back on the number of live events they run.
According to a report in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is said to be considering cutting back on the amount of NXT Live Event House Shows that the company runs in 2020. It was also said that this would especially impact NXT’s loop of Florida Live Event House Shows that they regularly run.
It was also pointed out that attendance for NXT Live Events is down “pretty significantly” in 2019. It was added that the current idea is for NXT to cut back the amount of Thursday night house shows. Historically Thursday night’s house shows have been the lowest drawing gates of the NXT Live events.
“According to one person familiar with the Florida scene, the issue is local burnout. There’s not one specific reason, but a number of things that they believe have hurt attendance, some of which has to do with the divergence of fans (the respectful fan vs. old school fan who comes to yell at heels and make noise and often drink a lot and try and rile up heels leaves both fans not having fun when you’re in a small building with so few fans). Then it becomes an issue with security, as if they let the old school fans go, the new school fans are mad the crowd isn’t respectful and it’s no fun, or they think the crowd is cheering match quality and not booing heels and it’s no fun.”
Reports have also stated that one of the reasons NXT has been experiencing issues with the Florida house shows stems from the fact that the company doesn’t advertise which NXT Superstars will be performing on the shows.
Historically the local Florida events have been loaded with NXT Superstars who have not been appearing on Television. A lot of the main event names in NXT are no longer required to work the run of Florida Live Events, and this is almost always the case if NXT is running events out of town as well.
