AEW Had Three High Profile COVID-19 Cases At The Same Time

January 14, 2021

All Elite Wrestling now seemed to have a rough September with COVID-19. Nick Jackson revealed on his Instagram that he had tested positive during that time, along with Chris Jericho saying he had also tested positive despite showing no symptoms.

Forgotten in this was that Lance Archer also tested positive around this time, who missed his scheduled World Title match against Jon Moxley, only to be replaced by Eddie Kingston. This also set off a chain of events that wound up giving Kingston a main event run and possibly helped shape the direction of his character. Dave Meltzer broke down the timeline of the events with COVID-19 in AEW as he tried to piece it all together.

“Nick Jackson got it real bad. So, you know at the exact same time [as Jericho]. Nick Jackson was out for a little bit longer. He missed that next TV taping, but he was back at the following TV tapings.”

“[Lance Archer] would have been out about the same timeframe as Nick Jackson, I think they were pretty much identical timeframes. So, and he got it from — I’m trying to remember the exact story — it was from a family member who may have gotten it from a friend when they took the dog to a vet… it was all around the same time though, it’s interesting.”

They also revealed they did little tricks to hide Nick’s absence from television. One was having someone stay slightly off camera but pose as Nick’s leg for a superkick, or he was said to be just out of the view of the camera. Nick also travels to the shows with his brother Matt along with Brandon Cutler, but neither tested positive.

It had been noted that Jackson “doesn’t know how he got it,” which means he could have got it at the airport or anywhere else. It does seem that three cases of COVID-19 all lined up around the same time.
